Sight Word Watches and a Giveaway!

Sorry about the delay with this post!  I have been spending some quality time with my children and time got away from me.... but I hope you will have time to spend with me today, because I have something great to share with you!!! :)

My class is slowly learning their sight words! Our district has their own set of 76 words for Kindergarten and 300 words for First Grade.

In August, I knew that I wanted something fun and cute to help my new Kinders learn their sight words and that is when I found The Moffatt Girls Time for Sight Words watches!

This is the Primer Edition

This is the First Grade Edition

At my school, we teach 5 words a week - so that gives me time for my class to do one a day!

My sweet little Kinders are having soooo much fun with these! I copy them on white tag. There are 4 watches per a page, so I only need five pieces of tag each week - such a paper saver!

After they color them, I tape them loosely on their wrists. {That way they can take them on and off easily}

I love how they each color it their own way to match their personalities!

Want to win one of these sets?

You can enter on the Rafflecopter below ~ Just follow the steps to enter!
I will pick a winner on Monday, November 26th!

Good luck!

Thanksgiving Week!

I can not believe it is already Thanksgiving Week!!!

Wow! How time has flown! It seems like just yesterday it was the first day of school!

We have been busy little Kindergartners this week!

We worked on letters Tt and Ii; got to color a turkey and an Indian; worked on numbers 0 to 12 and patterns; studied about water, and studied about the first Thanksgiving. We also did lots of Thanksgiving crafts ~ Want to see???

~ Here is a few pictures of what we made for our Thanksgiving feast on Tuesday ~

These are our place mats

Our Indian vests {front}

Our Indian vests {back with glittered names!}

These are the stamps we used for the vests
We dipped them in paint and then stamped on the paper vests

I forgot to take pictures of their cute Indian Headbands - but look at this bling Indian necklace!

Our Indian necklaces
{These are noodles that we dipped in glue and glitter and let dry,
then the students patterned them on chenille sticks!}

Our Pilgrim hats

Our Turkey Place Cards {I had to glitter their names!}

These are our Nervous Turkeys - aren't they cute?
I was excited I got 14 of 19 back! :)

CAST and Thanksgiving

I am sooo sorry I have been MIA!  A few teachers from my school and myself went to Texas CAST {Conference for the Advancement of Science Teaching} conference {you can also learn more at STAT} this past week! It was an amazing and fast 3 days!  I had sooo much fun, but missed my family soooo much!

I went to a workshop on magnets and got some great ideas!  We got to play with magnets the presenter purchased at Radio Shack. We put them on a pencil  - opposite sides so they would bounce on the pencil. My Kinders will love this trick! We talked about why they didn't stick together {different poles} -  you can find the trick {here}.  We also used a balance and put a plastic cup on one side and a magnet under the balance and in the cup on one side {all on the right side of the balance} and then washers on the other side {left side of the balance}. We had to  put a washer in until the magnets no longer stuck together. It was interesting to see how many people had different answers. {and I just love going to workshops that are hands on and you are learning!}

I also went to a workshop on Energy. The presenter had all her stations set up for her 5th grade class. They rotate through the stations. It was fun to see how different things work and why!  She told us about this website where she gets all her materials {National Energy Education Development Project}.

In the Exhibit hall I found the ETA VersaTiles for Kinder! I am in LOVE! They have the VersaTiles Readiness Kit for Kinder and would sooo love some! I did get a free sample I can't wait to show my Kinders! They are going to love it! :)

I also go to play with a Zoomy from Learning Resources!  Another thing to add to my wishlist! {Okay Santa, are you listening?}

This week I will be working on my Thanksgiving items: place mats, Native American vests, pilgrim hats, and turkeys!  We have our Thanksgiving Feast in a week and a half! So much to do.... so little time!

Halloween!

I hope everyone had an amazing Halloween! My class had a great day of learning and a little fun! {I thought the day of Halloween was crazy - the day after wore me out!}

The day before Halloween we made a skeleton {you can read about it here}

The day of Halloween, we did some learning... {and the day after I was exhausted!}

We had a snack and graphed Halloween bat and pumpkins pretzels, which I found at Teaching Heart Blog.

We read Five Little Pumpkins and then made a picture using their finger prints for the pumpkins. We did lots of addition and subtraction using pumpkin erasers {I found at Target} and our fingers.

We read and worked on our color words using a Halloween reader you can find at HeidiSongs blog and you can download the reader here.

We also carved our pumpkin!  I wish I could show you their sweet happy faces! It was a fun {and crazy} day!

I promised you a picture of me as Skippyjon Jones.... You promised not to laugh.....

So, I am not the expert pumpkin carver... but we had fun trying!

This is my sweet First Grader! Such a sweet smile!
Also, I have to send you to a great blog!  Smedley's Smorgasboard is having a giveaway {only until Sunday - so hurry!}  and you do not want to miss out on his awesome items!!! If you click the button below it will take you to his blog {the link to the giveaway is here}
